Holiday Party 2007
Holiday Party - December 8, 2007, continued
The residents also assisted five USD School of Leadership student interns who set up craft tables and helped the girls make special greeting cards for loved ones they hadn’t seen in a while. There were also tables for decorating Christmas cookies.
The residents also were in charge of the decoration of live, small Christmas trees. Miniature Christmas trees were donated by Walter Andersen Nursery and we had tiny light sets, decorative pots, candy canes, bows and ornaments to make the trees festive. Kate, a resident, supervised all of the tree decorating. There were enough trees so that the residents could also put some in their bedrooms upstairs and make their rooms more festive as well.
We had an international holiday theme and gifts were passed out for residents and Little Sisters so that no one went home empty-handed. The Big Sisters had a drawing for a $100.00 Nordstrom gift certificate donated by a member of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women of San Diego) for the mentoring program.
Randy, owner of “Mandarin Dynasty” Restaurant on University Avenue, also donated part of the cost of the delicious and plentiful Chinese finger foods that we served. This represented Chinese New Year and we also passed out gold foil-wrapped coin-shaped chocolate pieces for Hanukkah.
Bicycles were again generously donated by the Polakov Family’s “Bikes for Kids Foundation”. Jennifer Moyle, Executive Assistant, of the Mentor Program spent many rainy nights assembling the bicycles so that girls could take home that very special prize. Hot cider was served and everyone went home with a fortune cookie. Special Thanks to Dean Andersen, San Diego National Bank, who donated $950.00, and to Ben Price of Regents Bank, who personally donated $200.00 to help offset the cost of this very special party for over 70 people and a very packed house!
